Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I travel with Capitol Tours?

For forty years we have been serving the people of South Carolina, traveling throughout the United States and Canada, with an emphasis on safety and customer service. Learn more about the Capitol Tours’ difference.

  • What size groups normally travel with Capitol Tours?

We provide transportation to groups of all sizes from 20, 50, 100, 200 and more.

  • I’m an individual or a member of a small group that cannot fill up a bus, but still want to travel. What can Capitol Tours do for me?

Our Travel Club is open to anyone and is free to join. Members of our Travel Club will receive newsletters and information about special events throughout the year. Learn more about the Travel Club and see our upcoming tours.

  • What is a charter and how is it different from a tour?

A charter is bus transportation only whereas a tour also includes the events, attractions, accommodations and meals planned by our staff.

  • Do I have to come to your office to plan my trip?

While we welcome customers to come by our office and meet our staff, we are also available to meet with you at your place of business, church or school.

  • I want to be at my destination early in the morning. Can we leave the night before and drive all night?

We believe safety comes first with all of our passengers. While there are no regulations prohibiting drive-through-the-night travel, we believe it is unsafe to disrupt a driver’s normal sleep cycle. However, we'd love the opportunity to work with you and discuss your options.

  • Where will my trip leave from?

Our Travel Club tours depart from our West Columbia office unless noted otherwise. Other groups typically depart from their place of business, church or school. We encourage you to contact us to discuss your specific situation.

  • Do I need trip insurance? How do I get it?

Trip insurance isn't required; however, it is recommended for multi-day adventures to help protect you and your trip investment against the unexpected. Contact us for more information regarding trip insurance.

  • Can I drink alcohol on the bus?

No. In many states, open container laws also apply to motorcoaches. Allowing alcohol to be consumed puts our driver at risk of being ticketed. Therefore, we do not allow alcohol consumption on our buses.

  • Do you subcontract out your trips to other bus companies?

To ensure the quality of our trips and customer service, we strive to take care of our customers with our own staff and equipment. We only subcontract our trips out to other companies for special events or unforeseen circumstances. In the instance that we have to subcontract a trip, we work with members of the American Bus Association, Motorcoach Association of South Carolina and the United Motorcoach Association. If we have to subcontract out to another company, the customer will be notified in advance.
